SWILnews #1, volume 5 (A.K.A. The Campaign for Sucharitkul in '83) Announcements first: The meeting time was changed last week to 6:00 Sunday at dinner. I will not be at the meeting next week (9/19) due to a meeting of Topics in Human Sexuality. This is the only time that will conflict with a SWIL meeting. Neil Ottenstein has [strike]been trapped into being[/strike] been made Heir Apparent. Jay Scott has volunteered to be story editor of the Unicorn Star. Please write something, [strike]ANYTHING[/strike] and submit it to him. [strike] I hear he enjoys writing rejection letters.[strike] There will be a reading, with the theme of punny stories, on Saturday 9/25 (a week from this Saturday). There will be a limit of one (1) Isaac Asimov and one (1) Spider Robinson for the evening. Stay tuned for further information. There will be a SWIL Hallowe'en party on Saturday, October 30. The collation of SWAPA will be _this_ Saturday at 10:OO in Parrish Parlours. Everyone is in charge of seeing that hir zine is written and duplicated (25-30 copies) in time. A list of discussion topics is posted on the SWIL board (across from the M-Z mai1 boxes). Please sign up for anything that interests you, or volunteer to lead something not yet offered. There were no minutes taken of the meeting of 9/5/82. But from the agenda I can tell you that the following topics were discussed (with much repetition as people came in late). Booklists -- please get these to David Szent-Gyorgi (hope I got that right, Dave) as soon as possible. The Unicorn Star -- A deadline of 10/15 for submissions was set. I will be managing editor with Neil as my apprentice. The Writers' Workshop -- no news from Cooper or Somtow, and not much interest from SWIL members. Discussion Groups -- see the SWIL board for info. SWAPA -- if you want to look at a copy the following people may have one: David Fristrom, Anne Mylott, Charles Barker, and me (alias Jennie Jacobson) Conventions -- SWIL will definitely have a room at Philcon (which will be January 14-16) and will very probably make the pilgramage to Boskon (February 11-13??). Partial minutes of the meeting of 9/12. The meeting commenced at 11:30 SWILtime (11:37 E.S.T.) Jay Scott proposed that SWIL and SAGA exchange acronyms. and asked whether SWIL stood for South West Illinois. Debbie explained that a man (?-ed.) called her, looking for Anne Louise. He (?-ed, again) explained that Franz Paasche had told him we might be interested in the following proposal: The caller wished to speak, for a fee on the topic: "U.F.O.s - A Cosmic Watergate" (sic) (k-ed.) Wanting to end the call as soon as possible, Debbie told him she'd call him back if we had any money budgeted for such a thing.
