SWIL NEWS Volume 6, Number 3 September n>24 At the previous meeting for some reason (most likely to celebrate the SWAPA collation) there were practically more alumni than active members. The alumni: one of the founding fathers of SWIL - Jim Huang (Fearless and Charismatic Leader), my immediate predecessor to the SWIL throne - Jennie Jacobson, David S-G, Mike Kane, and Alice Macneal. The present SWILlers: Dave Bedell, Jay Scott (climbing on the walls). Irene Ghatt, Matt Wall. Alison Knapp. Heather Whipple, Matthew Katinsky. Sherry. and myself. Since we are coming to the third official SWIL meeting there are people who are up for voting nonmembership or membership. This of course also depends on their sentience or or lack thereof. These new illustrious people who have been to two consecutive meetings are Irene. Alison. Matt Wall, and Heather. To set of these special people apart from others I will move their names to alphabetical postion order on the SWILLIST providing that they do come to the next meeting. You can see Just who is on the SWILLIST by looking in the SWIL Account, ORGSWI, in the file named SWILLIST. Talking about members... There were several of you whom I mentioned last time that would not be receiving any more SWIL NEWSes unless you contacted me. Well. out of that list only the amazing Janet Conrad did contact me and request to stay on the SWILLIST. There are a few or those people mentioned whom I will give a second chance. but the ones who are being eliminated from the list are Charles Barker, Richard Hughey, Ramona OHalloran, William Tsai, Joanne Wood, Tom Wright, and John Yetter. By contacting me you can receive future copies. The people whom I am giving a second chance are Todd Karakashian, and Dan Levi. We are doing an all campus mailing of the description of SWIL which appeared in the Student Handbook. It has been printed up by SDS. A number of people have mentioned that they are available to do it Friday afternoon. I believe that people can start stuffing at 2PM. I, myself, cannot make it then because I have a seminar, but will help out, if necessary. after the seminar. Many hands make fast work. so if you do not have a class please help out. I have asked Sherry to pick up the copies from SDS and store them since she does live in Parrish. Last year when we did the Official SWIL Survey the stuffing went quite quickly with the help we had. This too can do so if there are a good amount of people helping. Please get in touch with Sherry, Jed, and Shoshanna so you can organize how you are going to do it. I have two extra copies of the SWAPA we collated on Saturday. I will try to bring them to the meeting which takes place as usual in a reserved dining room at High Noon on Saturday. Matt Katinsky mentioned that if any of you are interested in restarting a SCA canton, contact him. On Sunday the 25th at 7:30 and 9:30 in Clothier we will be showing the utterly amazing film Dark Star. Several posters have already been put up. If you can please make and put up some posters yourself. For some reason the ones which I put in the the latter half of the alphabet mail room have disappeared already. ----------------------------------------------------- SWIL NEWS Volume 6, Number 3 September n>24, 1983 On October 14 at 7:30 PM. H. Bruce Franklin will be here to speak on Science Fiction and America (or some topic similar to that). It will take place in the Meeting House. I have talked with him over the summer so it is still on. He should be contacting me again with further details. If you would like to find more about H. Bruce Franklin talk with Matt Wall, who has appears to be the resident expert. Sherry is still organizing the SWIL Halloween Party. She has reserved Sharples II for Friday and Starurday Oct. 28-29. At the last meeting there was a leaning toward the Saturday date. Please tell me or Sherry how you feel about it so she can unreserve one of the dates. We need to start thinking about The Unicorn Star. Who would like to be the prime organizers and editors of it this year? When should we start asking for contributions. etc? Please put your bids in at this week's meeting. Any interest in having a reading or a filksing? Does anybody want to start up a discussion group? Philcon is taking place from November 18 -20 this year. I have information about it on the bulliten board (which is located across from the latter half of the alphabet mail room near the exit). I believe the deadline for preregistration is October 31. Any of you planning to go to Philcon and how are you planning on getting there? Should we try and get the Stundent Council van or should we try and rely on public transportation and people who have cars here? Please continue working on t-shirt designs. I would like us to agree on a design within the next two weeks. It would be very good if we could somehow get the design in and get back the shirts before Philcon. If anyone wants to submit book lists into the computer you are welcome to do so. Jed has his list in a file there with an obvious title. We will need to name an heir to the throne soon. Get your nominations and volunteering in soon. Maybe we can actually do it at the next meeting or at least find out who are the candidates. Another exciting thing to do is to think up titles for those voting members and voting nonmembers that we have. Everyone knows that I am Ghod Emperor of SWIL, but does anyone else have a title? Think about it. That's about it for now. ONWARD >>>>
