SWILnews #1 for the week of Sept. 11-17, 1988 EVENTS: Well, there's not much in the way of events this week. At our first meeting, we discovered who was whom and what was which, and the fact that Joel Offenberg will run this year's Pterodactyl Hunt (still tentatively scheduled for Oct. 7) with the able assistance of Laura Almasy. There will be a Pterodactyl Hunt Rules Meeting after the SWIL meeting on Saturday the 17th (that's this coming Saturday) to discuss rules changes, new monsters, and, in particular, the legal strike zone for pterodactyls. This meeting will take place in the same room as the SWIL meeting. The Crum cleanup after last week's meeting went well; we pulled eleven tires, one bicycle, one oil drum, a large bag each of glass and aluminum, and a LOT of trash from the vicinity of Crum Creek. Many thanks to all who participated. The science fiction discussion table topic for this coming Saturday (9/17) will be world-building. Talk to Chris Cobb for more details, or look on the SWILboard for a list of suggested reading. It was also declared at the meeting that there will be 24 spaces available in vans to the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire on Sept. 24, and that Prof. Andrea Sununu may be driving there some other weekend if people can't go that day. NEWS: We have a speaker! Michael Swanwick, author of _Vacuum Flowers_, has agreed to give a talk at our Tenth Anniversary Reunion. He will choose the topic. His talk will be on Thursday, October 20, or right at the start of the festivities. ATTENDANCE: The following people may or may not have been in attendance: Atilla the Bunny Rabbit (LaneLane); Mike the Mechanic (Morgan); Grand Moff Hartman; RIP (Ick!); The Only Alternative and his Other Possibilities; Valentine Michael Mackay-Smith; Mike Moran; Bruce "M" Hahne; Wayne of the Baskervilles; Brian Inouye; Josh "not Mackay" Smith; Sally, the Keeper of the Money; Kirdragon(fly); Dr. J.D.O. To quote ANALOG, "You won't get a better deal anywhere, any time!" Oops. Gotta go. Time to attack Tattooine. Varying my titles, Grand Moff Hartman
