SWILnews #4 For the week of Oct. 2-8, 1988. EVENTS: The Pterodactyl Hunt, as you've probably all figured out by now, is due to take place on this Friday, October 7. Hundreds of swords have been rolled, googols of trash bags have been miraculously changed to armor, and we still don't have enough orcs and hobgoblins. Talk to Geoff ("Orc King") Hopcraft, Bruce ("Hobgoblin Emperor") Hahne, or Joel ("Wizard") Offenberg if you want the chance to gang up on hapless players. The rain date for the Hunt will be Saturday the 8th. The science fiction discussion table topic for Satyrday, appropriately enough, will be Monsters in sf and fantasy. After the SWIL meeting this Saturday we'll be deciding on topics for next semester, so talk to Chris Cobb then or earlier if you've got suggestions. If you want to order this semester's SWIL t-shirt (with the slogan "SWIL Crazy After All These Years"), please put your name on the list on the SWILboard, with an indication of what size and color shirt(s) you want. Current colors available include blue and green (shades undetermined). Previous years' shirts will be orderable at the reunion. OOPS: I expect any day now to hear from a group called "Accuracy In SWILnews" after the mistakes I made last week. A couple of corrections: the space shuttle launch (which DID take place, though a bit late) was the first in 32 months, not 26. _Star Trek: The Next Generation_ does not start a new season until the end of this month (though it is indeed on Wednesday nights). And _Fawlty Towers_, which I didn't mention, can be seen Sunday nights at 7 PM on channel 12. Also, after reading descriptions of sf magazines at the meeting, I neglected to call for another vote. But I gathered from the first vote, the previous week, that not too many people cared what magazines we subscribe to, so unless I'm overwhelmed with protest, I'm going to continue with the plan to subscribe to _Visions_ and possibly _IASFM_. ATTENDANCE: We have two new non-members! Jeff Hildebrand and Peter Wagner were dismembered last Saturday. Unless I've made a mistake somewhere, this coming Saturday will not be anyone's third consecutive meeting; however, five of you can still be dismembered before October break! Present and accounted for at the last meeting were: Bruce "I _got_ my bicycle!" Hahne, Arle Gnearad the buy-miser, Rick "Pardon me while I crawl over you" Post, Josh "not-Mackay" Smith, Peter "I want mustard" Wagner, Jeff "I'm just Shadow construct" Hildebrand, Deborah "I'm not invisible right now, but even if I were I'd still be here" Holtzman, David "Since when did quotes enter attendance" Auer, Chris Cobb and his Capitalist twin Ark, Jill "Backrub, anyone?" McElderry, Devin "Not really my name" Nisbet, Joel "Thank God the Hunt is this weekend!!", Jim M (present but not accounted for), Hannah, A. Raff, Riddlemaster of SWIL, Maris Grey (I'll use my pseudonym only once), Erwin Rommel (Naturlich), Ben "Yobabyobabyobabyo" Rothfeld, Janice, Jonathan "I don't have to write anything here if I don't want to" Wald, Andy "Yes he does" Perry, Laura "I've got my Helmet" Almasy, Lisa, Leif "SSC" K., Lastname.Firstname.Lastname.symmetry.Karen, and "Mikles". Why is a raven like a writing-desk? Unmusically, Jed, Riddlemaster of SWIL
