Silly SWILnews #8 for the week of November 6 - 12, 1988. EVENTS: Several of us went to PhilCon last weekend and had a lot of fun. I recommend going next year if you've got the time. There's _still_ time to correct or add to the t-shirt ordering list, which is posted on the SWIL board and to order previous years' shirts, which are available in any color, but only if you read this on Thursday morning. I forgot to ask at the meeting about bringing _Dr. Strangelove_ next semester. Will do so this coming meeting. Obligatory quotation: "The SWIL Halloween party will take place on Satur- day, November 12. Talk to Julie Love, Rick Post, or Deborah Holtzman for more details. Cost is $2 in advance, or $2.50 at the door, since it's a 'private' party." --from last week's SWILnews. Before the Halloween Party, though, will be a discussion table, at 5:30 in a small reserved room in Sharples. We will discuss Harlan Ellison, his life, his works, his wife, his quirks, and his strife for perqs. I don't know if topics have been decided for the rest of the semester, though they might include Bester or Sylvester [McCoy], or Judy-Lynn and Lester [del Rey], so pester Chris if you want to find out. Questers and jesters, testers and resters, Easters and Westers, nosters and yesters! Ahem. Sorry. Got carried away. Off Centaur Publications, Inc., one of the few publishers of filksongs in the civilized world, has sort of gone out of business. Its new name is apparently Firebird, and prices are apparently going up. I'll keep you all posted. If anyone wants to hear a tape of Frank Hayes, Geoff Hopcraft and I now own _Don't Ask_, his only album that I know of. A lot of fun. I don't know about Geoff, but I'd be happy to let anyone listen to mine. And SWAPA collation will take place on the weekend of the 19th. 'zines to be photocopied here should be given to Julie by Tuesday the 15th. ATTENDANCE: Orson Scott Card, --oh, sorry. That was PhilCon. I'M FIRST!!! (FRAN, age 6); Elrie X.
