The winter wind howls cruelly. FIRST FIGURE: I sure wish we had been paid that photocopying money, so long ago. SEC7OND FIG?URE: Yeah, then maybe our lives would have turned out so differently. *sigh* WINTER WIND: Aroooh, aroooh. Grr. Hm. I wonder if y'all could call this a hint? Nahhh... Okay, we have real news on places to go and people to see. PHILCON: A few of you want to go. Groovy. The information on speakers and so forth is posted on the SWILboard. Nao said she would check with local alums about hitching rides. RENAISSANCE FAIRE: Andrea has uncharacteristically volunteered to organize a trip to a Ren Faire some weekend soon. A Ren Faire features various demonstrations and activities of a medieval nature, with people dressed in garb harassing the passers-by (who get in cheaper if they too are costumed). There are all sorts of cool things to buy: weapons, mugs, costumes, really expensive lemonade, and so forth. They're fun. Talk to Andrea if you're interested in going, or if you have any information about the Maryland one. LLOYD ALEXANDER: Lloyd Alexander, author of the Chronicles of Prydain, has invited us to visit him on SATURDAY, 10 OCTOBER, from 10am-noon. Apologies to seniors taking GREs, but that's how it worked out. I'll look into getting an SC van; we can find a driver this Saturday. We have 16 people who expressed interest, but he said he only wanted 12 (which I think is fair; I don't know how big the man's living room is). So we'll hash out details at the meeting. Please try to show up if you want to go to this, or send me (Melissapline) mail soon. Also featured at this week's meeting will be CARNAGE CARNAGE CARNAGE. This Saturday will mark the third consecutive meeting for Lisa Stefanowich, Kylian Robinson, Evan Dorn, Joshua Fairfield, Sam Weiler, Don Lehr, and Jason Adler. Plan to prove sentience, y'all, so we can induct you into the full Voting Non-Member privileges of SWIL. Heh heh heh heh.... Lisa is interested in organizing a game of Combat Chess at some point. This is like Live Chess, but with battles being fought over the squares, as opposed to actual chess rules making the decisions. This sort of thing happens at Ren Faires, in fact. Oh, the continuity. So talk to her if you're interested. Jere7my (that is, me) had the idea of spending some of our Book-Buying Budget (or BBB) on videotapes of science fiction things, such as Dark Star, Star Wars, War of the Worlds, When Worlds Collide, etc. This would mark the inception of the SWIL Science Fiction Video Library, which would take up less room than Cordwainer Bird and, thus, be better suited to fitting in places. Suggestions for videos should be made at the next meeting, or anytime you think of them. (We'd only be able to buy about two this year, so don't get too excited.) Furthermore, Lesley Tsina is looking for tapes of "Mystery Science Theatre 3000." If you have any idea what she's talking about, let her know. ATTENDANCE 12 SEPTEMBER Nao "Bi-Naomial once more?"
