Date: Sat, 5 Nov 1994 14:11:18 -0500 To: _swat.org.swil @ cc.swarthmore.edu From: (Lesley Tsina) X-Sender: ltsina1 @ cc.swarthmore.edu (Unverified) Subject: Boy, the things we could tell you about SWILnews #7 [and kleenex] To die, to sleep, to sleep, perchance to dream. Yes, at 12:38 am any and all of these options sound good to us weary co-presidents. Send your suggestions to: Fate of the co-presidents P.O. Box 5551 Hallowell Basement [yell what you will. -L] This is NOT a late SWILnews. Anyone who tells you it is is obviously a deluded psychotic criminal mastermind plotting some devious act that will damage the hearts and minds of all civic-minded people everywhere. If you should find one of these treacherous folk wandering about instilling their perverse notions in the populace, immediately beat them about the face and neck with a large tuber, and then report to us for further instructions on burying the infidel in the greater Parrish Annex area. Thank you for your support. If there is nothing to say, then why would one start typing? This is the question I ask myself as I embark on a blurb to preceed the useful bit of this week's SWILnews, knowing full well that most people skip this part, letting out an inner scream of hatred to the fearful gods that brought them this meaningless piece of electronic drivel Well, everyone get real excited, 'cause this weekend is gonna be the Pterodactyl Hunt! Yay! Boy I can't wait. I do so look forward to these momentous SWIL events. My heart is aflutter with thoughts of what adventurous times might be in store for all and sundry. I do so hope everyone can make it. If you have any questions, get in touch with Kendra and/or Fred. [Gee, I wonder if those two can really handle the pressure of putting on a full-fledged Hunt. I guess we'll see this weekend, huh? -TG] So everyone show up in Parrish Parlors Friday the 4th at 7:30 and we will, we will rock you. Also, Swordrolling will be this Wednesday at 7:00 preceeding Babylon 5. Everyone should show up in Hallowell basement and try to make this as painless a chore as possible. Aaron Hertzmann should go to George or Parlors or some such place, wait around for a couple hours and than meander over to the basement. Lesley should prepare in advance, since who knows what sorts of bacchanalia may go on when everyone starts getting down-and-dirty with the masking tape. [the mind boggles. -TG] [Don has obviously had his fill of bacchanalian revelry and will not be attending. -L] [Hey, I never said I wouldn't be there. I promise to really try and show up. Don't wait for me though, because you never know what sort of major world crisis might detain me. -TG] [Gosh, if I knew then what I know now... I mean, if I knew now what I will know later... -L] [Isn't it great having a continuity editor for the SWILnews to banish these little temporal mishaps? -L] Most of last meeting concerned the Hunt preparations, however, there was also a bit of other stuff discussed, such as: Giant Purple Iguanas have been flourishing in the North Eastern area this season. Pumpkin Carolling was apparently a great sucess last night, [that's Monday for y'all who care to quibble. -L] Our brave and merry band did, in fact, crash William Turpin's Latin seminar and thwarted said prof's attempts to shut them up by throwing candy at them. It also had been learned that several new filks have been created by a certain cadre of Freshling composers, go to George and check them out! People seemed to like the SWILoween party, kudos to Besh and Lesley. Also, the ML party Saturday was loads of fun and asphyxiation for those brave enough to attend. Several took the option of attending the Delaware Valley Ball and had a good time though there was less Michael Jackson played at the Scottish fete, and you couldn't walk into Tarble a few days later and have some woman stare at you for a long time and say, "hey, weren't you the campus?".Whew, good thing all that Halloween stuff is finally over and we can get on to other stuff like movies, and the Hunt. Philcon was once again discussed and since there was all the hunt stuff to discuss, it was put off for another week. [For some reason I have this strange premonition that it might not get entirely dealt with next Saturday, can't imagine why. TG] [Maybe you should be the Oracle. -L] Plan 9 from Outer Space will be showing this Tuesday in ML lounge at 10:00. It was cancelled last week, but Joe is sure to have it up and running for us this week. [Now THIS bit of time-dilation might get interesting. -TG] [That's not how time dilation works, you stupid man, stupid, stupid! -L] [OK, you obviously didn't take into consideration that everyone who would want to go see an Ed Wood movie would probably also figure out a way to accelerate themselves at such a rate that they might pass the ensuing days as quickly as possible. Thus time dilation. -TG] Non-SWILbusiness: Aside from the ML party and the Scottish Ball, there was also an announcement that Allen Ginsburg would be visiting, which he did yesterday. Apparently it was an really neat place to be as he discussed everything from his sphincter to personal meditation. [Actually, I have always found these two subjects to be closely related, but maybe that's just me. -TG] That about does it for this week, a fairly brief account of a meeting that seems oh-so-long ago. Tune in soon for yet another edition of "As the Arctic Terns" a thrilling story of love and loss on the ice floes south of Argentina. [Geography was never our strong suit. -L&TG] Now we bring you...
