From chaos at cs.swarthmore.edu Sat Jul 17 20:03:58 1999 Date: Tue, 8 Sep 1998 15:42:45 -0400 (EDT) From: Chaos Golubitsky To: SWIL 2002: ; Subject: Green things and hallucinations! If you are getting this email it is because you expressed interest in SWIL at the activities fair. We, your co-presidents, wanted to tell you a little about ourselves and our organization *before* you got your first SWILnews. I. What is SWIL and how do I become a member? SWIL, Swarthmore Warders of Imaginative Literature, (yes, the acronym came first) is Swat's science fiction/fantasy club. We also specialize in general weirdness and having a lot of fun. The current co-presidents are chaos golubitsky, aka Hlokk Kira Goetschius, aka Goll Will Quale, aka Skogul As for membership, well, you already are a member. The question you should be asking is "How do I become a non-member?" SWIL works a bit backwards. Meetings are called to disorder at the beginning and order at the end. Only non-members are allowed to vote. To be "dismembered" and become a voting non-member, you must first attend three consecutive meetings and then prove your sentience. This is not as hard as it sounds. Two teddybears, a doll, and Lego people have all been proven sentient in previous meetings. II. When do you meet and what goes on at a meeting? We meet at 12 noon on Saturdays in Sharples, Room 4 (the small room next to the cereal). You really can't miss us. If you don't make a meeting, don't sweat. You will be receiving within the week (technically... we hope) a SWILnews detailing what occurred at that meeting and generally throwing in a ton of silliness besides. At a meeting, we first discuss items pertaining to SWIL activities (SWILbusiness) and then talk about other random fun things (Non-SWILbusiness). III. SWIL activities Our activities are far too numerous to list here, sorry. The activities that will be occurring within the next few months and which are of the greatest importance are movies, SWILoween, and the Pterodactyl Hunt. MOVIES are shown every Monday night at 10:00 (ish. SWILies aren't known for their promptness.) in Kirby Lecture Hall in Martin. SWILOWEEN is just what it sounds like: SWIL's Halloween party. Much fun. THE PTERODACTYL HUNT is SWIL's annual live role-playing game. Just picture lots of Swatties with rolled up newspapers running all over the campus and swatting other Swatties. Nice image, no? More info on this will become available as the date nears. Feel free to check out our web page at: http://www.sccs.swarthmore.edu/org/swil/swil.html. We hope to see many of you at the meeting this week. If you have any other questions you can email one or all of us at chaos at sccs, kira at sccs and will at sccs. And remember: A herring is just a herring, but a good cigar is a Cuban. --- Hlokk, Goll and Skogul valkyries in residence
