From jgoldie @ sccs.swarthmore.edu Wed Mar 16 23:13:46 2005 Date: Wed, 16 Mar 2005 23:10:43 -0500 (EST) From: Jillian G. Waldman Reply-To: presidents @ swil.org To: SWILnews Subject: SWILnews #6 in Slight Wonderland SWILnews #6 in Wonderland (It's late! It's late! It's late! -f) (so are we going to continue with this theme all the way through, or end it now? -c) (it'll be more surreal if we end it now -f) (also, my watch is broken -f) (ironically -f) The meeting was called to disorder at the surprisingly reasonable time of 12:15, through the amazing mumbling powers of Andrew. As usual (Mai says) people were pathetic. (pay no attention to the fact that she was sleeping in ML at the time -f) == SWILbusiness == SWILmovie was After Life. Mark, at least, went to see it. There was talk of showing it over break (because everybody missed it -c), but it didn't show up in time. The SWILmovie after that was Army of Darkness. Mark, at least, went to see it. (do you know this for a fact? -f) (yes, actually -c) The SWILmovie after *that* will be The Brave Little Toaster. Mark will probably go see that too. (i can't fix my watch -f) (noda, do you have technical skills with watches? -c) (really no -noda) (blake might be able to break it for you -c) (*knock* -blake) (what needs breaking? -blake) We nominated movies for the Schlock film festival in May. They were all horrible. More specifically, they were: * Buffy the Vampire Slayer (i did it! my watch is fixed! and I have pliers! -f) (that is so un-alice in wonderland -c) * KISS versus the Phantom of the Park * Runaway * Destroy All Monsters * Death Stalker * Eyes of the Serpent * Giant Claw * Wizards of the Demon Sword * The (animated) Return of the King * The Sound of Horror (invisible dinosaurs! -c) * Excalibur We picked Wizards of the Demon Sword, KISS, and Destroy All Monsters to show as Schlock. (In a rare burst of competence, they're already ordered and everything -c) We then discussed t-shirt designs, some of which were sketches on napkins, and others of which were vague ideas. Final artwork is due at next week's meeting, and should be ready to scan and print. Come to meeting if you want to vote. If you have a design and can't come to meeting, email it to presidents, or give a paper copy to one of us. If you want to re-submit one of last year's designs, tell Curtain, who thinks she has all of them in a folder in George somewhere. The absolute, final BEM deadline is two weeks after break (the prop currently says March 26th). They still need writing, poetry, filks, artwork, etc. There was a lottery. Someone received something, but we can't remember what. It was a long time ago. (At this point, Curtain and Fist paused to acrobatically put a poster on the ceiling, risking their lives and limbs for the sake of the Incredibles. -cf) == Non-SWILbusiness == Andrew is running an Eye of Argon reading this semester, probably during finals or reading week. There was supposed to be parlor gaming the last weekend of break. It degenerated into Telephone Oracle. There was an origami Cthulhu in the Kitao gallery. It's gone now. If you missed it, too bad. Movie-related things you've missed by now: The Oscars, 1776, and Bring it On (which didn't actually get shown) There was a tango Milonga at 9 in Upper Tarble. There was a ballet in LPAC saturday at 8 and Sunday at 2. You missed it. Qian needed mallet percussionists for something. If you're interested and want to know if she still needs them, email her. Andrew's sister was on campus on Thursday. (not the hot, blonde Andrew, the other one -c) (STRESS! ... I feel better now -f) Twelfth Night needed a propsmaster and stage crew. Note that this means prop as in "stage prop", not "propaganda prop". There was Civ over break. And other gaming, too. == Attendance List of a mixture of Gothic and Smurf (2-26-05) == Spam "Lauren" Spam Spam Spam Sarah "dharma, kama, moksa" Hartman Mary "on a scale from 1 to BLUE... sort of a gothsmurf" Wootters Michael "(dear, how do you expect me to represent Japanese in ascii? -c) is no longer here" Noda MARK "ONE MONKEY DON'T STOP THE SHOW" HANDLER PILE OF "GREEN GROW THE PICKLES 'O" PICKLES (you *are* aware that if it's a different set of pickles each week, they can't prove sentience. you have to keep the same pickles -c) RUNNING "DON'T FEED THE MEMES" JOKE Emmanuelle "NOANYthing But That!"
