Swilnews Volume 8 Number 12 January n<29, 1986 WELCOME BACK, SWILFOLK!!! Present at the first meeting of the new regime were: KateHelen, Ruth, Perry, Elliot, Kitty, Eric, Jed, Shoshanna, Kir, MattKat, DeViouS, Debby, John, Gavin, Steve, Jon, Karen, Hal, Ellen, Brad, Allison, Diana, and from behind door #3, Jim. Karen's appearance earned her the honor of becoming our 58th non-member. Remember when dismemberment was a rare event? Out new Lord and Master began his reign by taking suggestions. After some of the more colorful activities (Water polo, anyone? Bring your own horse!) were discarded, there was a friendly invitation (read: desperate plea) to push SWAPA. At present, this APA which originated at Swarthmore has only two current SWILfolk in it. The gradutes are dying to see that Swat has not fallen into the ocean, and this is a good opportunity to verify that there is life after graduation. We think. See DVS or Jon for details on how to become involved in this unique literary opportunity. Most of the meeting consisted of a long and remarkably serious discussion of SWIl's hope for getting a room in either Clothier or Bond. The end decision was that we would submit a proposal telling them all the neat things we'd do in the room (well, admitting to most of them), and if we get it, we'll do them there, and if not we'll just continue to take over our immediate surrondings, as we tend to do anyway. Two non-members received new appelations at the meeting (really? I didn't know they were giving away mountains!) Ruth will henceforth and forevermore be known as Entropy ("Because I make things fall down.") and Perry is El Kesso Grande (EKG, for short), which apparently is a mangling of the French for "The Big Cheese." Oh, and speaking of Offices such as they are, next week's meeting will include voting two assistant leaders into office. One, the Vice President, will be in charge of organizing (or, suckering others into organizing) SWIL activities such as parties, filksings, pteradactly slaughters, etc. The other (the Virtue President?) will be responsible for knowledge--keeping us up to date on Conventions, new releases, and the SF world in general. The current candidates include Ruth, Hal, Jon, and Gavin. All are running for either post, being willing to take whatever they can get. If anyone else is interested in running or has suggestions about the offices themselves, let Perry know. As for the office of Scribe, as yet no one has shown an interest in the job except myself; let us know if any of you would like to hold an election for that, too. MattKat and DVS will be organizing a role-playing game which will exist in moderate reality, and continue for approximately two weeks. See them for details. Jim would like to see all of us for details--of stories, that is. BEM is right around the corner, or at least we'd like it to be, so SUBMIT to BEM. play this record...it won't hurt you ...it's not a pod.... julie love
