Welcome to The Normal SWILnews, brought to you by us, in this the second week of the PING dynasty. R.Alfasso, L.Almasy, D.Auer, J.Austrian, D.Bacharach, L.Batt, S.Carter, C.Cobb, G.Dare, J.Deane, P.Deess, D.Diaz, W.Finegar, G.Gowrisankaran, B.Hahne, J.Halbert, J.Hartman, R.Hecht, M.Hickernell, D.Holtzman, G.Hopcraft, K.Katz, L.Kirschenbaum, J.Mackay-Smith, K.McIntosh, J.Moskowitz, J.Patrick, H.Pomeranz, R.Post, H.Rigney, H.Rosner, B.Rothfeld, S.Ruff, G.Snyder, D.Stiefbold, K.Talmage, D.Van Stone, J.Wald, A.Weirich, E.Weiss, L.Wilder, M.Woodward, J.Yeoh, E.Sasse, M.Eisenstein, E.Hirai, J.Rapkin. What do these people have in common? That's right! They all have a first initial followed by a dot and a last name! Anyone who guessed that they were all at last week's SWIL meeting gets a consolation prize. Anyone who guessed that they were part of the Chilean dictatorship should be ashamed of themselves. The first sf discussion group was held on Sunday at 12:30 in Sharples. The topic was the difference, if any, between science fiction and fantasy. Next week's topic will be Science Fiction Films. That number again: 12:30 P.M., in Sharples, on Sunday, February 7. Shirts Off Our Backs dept.: Kir has compiled a list of t-shirt slogans to be considered for use on this year's SWIL t-shirt. The list is posted on the SWILboard. If you have any ideas for others, write them there before this coming Saturday, when we'll vote. We decided to make "SWIL Crazy After All These Years" t-shirts next fall for the 10th anniversary rather than using that for this year's slogan. Geoff Hopcraft and Kir Talmage volunteered to be in charge of our Live Chess Game, to be played/performed during Parents' Weekend this year. The SWIL room is now accessible: the key is in locker #42 in TIC, with combination 3-21-15 (3,2,1,15). Laura has decorated the room. There will be a sheet in the locker soon, if there isn't already, to sign when you take the key so that anyone looking for it will know who has it. The SWIL room is in Hallowell basement. It's a great place. It has games, books, a bed (for SITTING on), a typewriter, and decorations. Stop by some time. The tentative BEM deadline is the Monday after Spring Break, which will be March 14. PLEASE submit things, and tell all your friends to submit as well. BEM needs stories, poems, art, and so on. Out of things to say, we are The Emperors of the ==!!!!== Dynasty
