Here are all the details fit to print about this summer's SWIL Shoreline Adventure.
Dates: Sunday 5 June - Sunday 12 June, 2005
We are timing this to coincide with the end of Alumni Weekend. Travel information will be forthcoming later, but there will be a carpool (or several) down from Philly at the end of AW.
RSVP: We will continue to try to get more space as long as people want it. However, that may get harder as time passes, so there's more likely to be room the sooner you tell us you're coming. If your schedule won't let you decide for sure yet, let us know that you're thinking about it, and when you'll know more. The more information we have, the better able we are to plan around everyone!
E-mail chaos at glassonion dot org with who you are, how many of you are going, and any other requests, questions, or comments.
Location: Nags Head, NC, on the beach.
We have rented three large beach houses on Nags Head: one is right on the water, and the other two are next door to one another, across the street from the beach. Our houses are:
Each of these houses has a nice set of amenities --- interested parties can check out the webpage for hot tubs, pool tables, and so forth, but the big one is that we will have phone service, so, while there is no high speed internet (this is a vacation, after all!), those who can't afford to be offline for a whole week may be able to arrange dial-up access through their ISPs.
Cost: $200-$300 or more per adult person for housing for the week, plus food, incidentals, and activities which cost money.
Housing cost will depend heavily on how many people go, as well as on demographics and room preferences. We currently estimate:
Activities: Many!
We'll be right next to the ocean, and we should be far enough south that the ocean will be swimmable. Therefore, we expect a lot of swimming, kayaking, snorkelling (there are supposedly some neat offshore shipwrecks which can be snorkelled), walking on the beach, roasting marshmallows, and so forth.
We're also across the street from a state park, so hiking and cycling may be available locally as well, and many other outdoor activities should be possible within easy driving distance of the houses. Nags Head is supposed to be very pretty, and we intend to take advantage of it.
And, to round off the outdoor activities, this is a vacation with SWIL, so there will be gaming aplenty, storyreading, roundsinging, movie watching (bring your own movies), and just plain hanging out and relaxing with your friends.
Flying cars: Sadly, no flying cars on this vacation. Try back in 2006.
