the list of movies should consist of 15 movies and three or four alternates. generally, the movie schedule is created at the beginning of the semester when the movies will be shown, rather than the end of the previous one (meaning, among other things, that the incoming presidents, not the outgoing ones, are responsible for picking the first movie over winter break). when scheduling movies, we attempt to alternate sf and fantasy movies. also, show things that will get a big draw during weeks when a lot of people will want to see movies. the first week of the semester tends to attract people, as does exam period. but this isn't a limiting factor: we've packed kirby a couple of times for popular movies shown mid-semester.
