Speakers

SWIL has sometimes been known to bring all-campus speakers, either solo, or as part of SWILcon, the convention which ran in spring 1997-1999. If you bring a speaker, you should write this section to give advice to other people who might try it.

Money for speakers can come from a number of places on campus. Try any department that might be relevant to your speaker (physics or astro, maybe, if it's a science fiction speaker and you can make a case for it), any other organizations that might be interested, the president's and dean's funds, etc. There's an organization called Forum for Free Speech which gives money to clubs who are bringing speakers. They'll only pay for speaker fees (not transportation), but they have a big budget and can thus be pretty generous, especially for requests of a few hundred dollars.
